Problem-Solving Problem Solving By Ken Carroll.

The philosopher Karl Popper first wrote "All Life is Problem Solving". This simple quote is powerful. But is it true? Observe any human conversation and it often includes stories about problematic situations. Problems seem to be everywhere and anywhere. They are our ups & downs. They can divide and bind us. They shape our lives. We could argue that life would be pretty boring without problems! But despite being omnipresent, problems also seem to be nowhere. They remain hidden in plain sight. Often overlooked and neglected. The consequences of not dealing with critical problems can be catastrophic. Often leading to situations that cause dysfunction, harm, or even death! Critical problem solving is an essential survival skill. It is not optional. Yet for many people, organisations, and businesses, problem-solving isn’t a thing!

If problems and problem solving are so important, why isn't everything we do built around them? In today’s DD we discuss problem-solving problem solving! We'll share our personal problem solving experiences. Our stories, problems, the solutions that shaped our lives, and how we each think, decide, and act. At the end we'll reflect on Karl Potter's powerful quote! And share why problem solving isn't THE thing!

Ken Carroll has been working in the telecom & tv industries for over 30 years. He has architected, designed, and developed high-tech products and high-tech organisations. In 2014 he decided to spend a few years full-time parenting his two daughters. This was the start of a profound change in awareness. He started to think about how children grow in their environment. Questions emerged about the nature of problems. How they form. How they shape us. And how we deal with them.

The cognitive load in thinking about problems became a problem. He struggled to find the means to help him think, decide, and act. He began to problem-solve his problem solving.

This started a very long & disruptive journey. To help himself he developed a visual trick called BUMPS®. He is currently developing the BUMPS Shared Problem-Solving Network™. This is a new public/private place for anyone to share & solve problems. A basic version has recently gone live at www.BUMPS.world. It's usable (useful), and free to join!
