NVC Embodied: Practicing Empathy with Gemma Jiang, PhD.
Nonviolent communication is a language of life. Sometimes referred to as "Martian" because it is alien to the usual fight, flight and freeze reactions. Beyond these three automatic reactions, we can make conscious choices in how to respond to difficult situations that lead to connection instead of alienation, understanding instead of conflict.
NVC offers field test practices with detailed guidance. During this DD session, we will practice:
- Fight, Flight, Freeze and Self-Empathy: to recognize your default mode of reaction, and to learn empathetic alternatives
- The Empathy Archery: to practice empathy with a person in need
- The Empathy Dance Floor: to practice empathy with a person or situation you are having difficulty with
After each practice session, pairs will also spend time reflecting on their inner reactions and bodily sensations. By the end of the session, you will walk away with practical tools and knowledge to supercharge your empathy capacity, and personal healing from challenging situations.
To participate, please think of situations you get angry or depressed about, not life crisis.
This session is designed based on Gemma's four training courses on NVC with Seed of Peace: Everybody’s Needs Matter: https://seedofpeace.org/
