How African Diviners helped me make sense of uncertainty by Nicola Robins.
We love a good mystery but we don’t like making decisions in uncertainty.
African Diviners were the first consultants and they specialised in sense-making. They were multi-disciplinary and their guidance covered strategy and brand, sustainability, human resources and organisational development. Their models and tools ranged outrageously in form and function. They competed on outcomes for jobs that brought greater recognition and reward. The best diviners worked for kings and queens and their role was to help their clients make decisions in uncertainty.
In this DD, I share experiences and insights drawn from my training and 20 years of practice as a Southern African Diviner. We’ll touch on:
- Diviner Lore
- Diviner Tech
- Diviner Training
You might discover how this ancient cognitive technology aligns with recent thinking on decision-making in complex systems, the 4E theory of cognition, and The Cynefin Co’s approach to ‘naturalising sense-making’.
