'Alignment' with Lindsay Uittenbogaard

Friendship and love, work and business by Paul King.

Why they are not only compatible but vital.

The received wisdoms of “never mix business, with pleasure”, and “don’t work with family and friends” are challenged in this week's Drinking Dialogue. The underlying problem seems to be personal financial interest and basically, falling out. This is however full of assumptions which Paul King questions.

Friendship and love come with the good and the bad in life, but care, concern, and compassion are required for a pragmatic acceptance of all the ‘slings and arrows’ to exist. In this week’s DD we will discuss who and what we mean by individuals, and by people working together, from a philosophical and psychological perspective. Leaping in (taking away agency) vs. leaping ahead (preparing the ground for agency), and the role of mood are central ideas for our discussion.

The suggestion is that these human qualities are very much to be fostered and developed in work and business. They do not rely on vulnerable people, making themselves vulnerable targets. We will discuss this as always in three small plenary breakout groups, and share our stories and ideas.
