Creating certainty about uncertainty by Melanie KendallÂ
Â
The world is becoming more and more uncertain. Within organisations. Beyond organisations. Everywhere and everyday, the uncertainty needle creeps seems to creep a tiny bit higher. No wonder many of us are keen to use anything in our power to impose a bit of certainty onto our corner of it.
How does it impact us? Change managers supposedly soak in the uncertainty and revel in the ambiguity. But to they really?
In this week's DD, we will try to create some certainty about the experience of uncertainty, and why it can be so hard to cope with. We will look at:
- Why uncertainty makes us so uncomfortable?
- What are the typical things we do to alleviate the discomfort?
- How can we get lasting relief by doing something different?
