I’m not a big fan of organisational psychology.
The personality profiling I find trite.
The behaviourist nudging ethically dubious.
Ego development is a recipe for hubris, especially when applied to groups.
Psychodynamics can be fantastic if used with care, horrifying if used carelessly.
I also don’t think that all that many people evaluating psychometrics actually understand what they are trying to evaluate.
In contrast, I am a big fan of narrative psychology. I think it can really help people see how they operate in complex environment, and actively adapt and improve themselves to operate in more sophisticated and appropriate ways.
In this DD, we’ll have a look at its three basic tenets, and ask you to look at your agency and activity through these lenses.
- The Agent: dispositional traits and the psychology of the stranger
- The Actor: the characteristic adaptations you employ in the various life roles you play
- The Author: the integrative narrated self – a complex story of self that is always becoming

Dr Richard Claydon is the co-founder of EQ Lab, and the designer of the Future of Leadership module at Macquarie Business School’s Global MBA Program (ranked #6 globally by CEO Magazine).
He was awarded the highest achievable marks for a Ph.D in behavioural science. A Harvard Top-200 Management expert and business columnists for the Guardian newspaper have described this research as “a touchstone for the future work in management and organisation”, “outstanding in daring imagination” and “at the forefront of modern discussion and debate.”
Richard is a tier one tennis player, have coached tennis professionally, and also designed the tactics creator for the multi award-winning and world-leading management simulation, Football Manager.
